18 July 2002 email from Ruth Harvey whose
grandmother was Florence Van Wickel. She writes: "My grandmother was
Florence Van Wickel, daughter of Charles Van Wickel. ...her middle name could
have been Estelle because that is my cousin's name and I always wondered where
my aunt got that name. My grandmother was b. somewhere in NYC around 1890. My
father died six years ago but his sister is living in Brooklyn. I believe my
great grandmother's name was Mary Roach (wife of Charles). I do know they had
other children after Florence and I could get that information to you. (In a
subsequent email, Ruth discovered that her grandmother's middle name was
Cecelia--not Estelle. Ruth's information parallels very closely the information
here and it is still possible she ties into this family. There do not appear to
be other Van Wickels who would fit the bill, based on what we know to date.)
** 9 Jan 2005 There is another family with a
Charles and Mary Van Wickel (and daughter, Florence) that can be found in the
1900, 1910, and 1920 US Census pages. This information is listed under Charles
Van Wickel on the VW strays page.
